“ A regular for 22 years and prices haven't changed much. Food is always fresh. The egg rolls are unlike any others I've ever had. Lots of extra flavors in them. You can come here for a full on pork chop plate (#39) or you can swing by and get a smoothie, bag of Doritos, and a sandwich. It's family owned and there is something to be said about the hard work they put in. If you're a Houstonian, this should be in your top 10...especially if you're a Houstonian with lots of mouths to feed. Don't come for decor or photo op, come for delicious and made with love family recipes. OH! Don't forget the avocado smoothie!!! ”
“ The most amazing grilled pork I've ever had And the rice noodles were perfect, and the beef meatball soup was divine. Service was phenomenal. and the ambience is really nice. ”
“ Ordered the Cali Combination Banh Mi. As someone who's used to Austin prices, I was SHOOK when I saw that the banh mi here was only $6! So affordable. And so good. Unlike at some other restaurants, the bread here is soft enough where every bite isn't scraping the roof of my mouth. I can't wait to come back and try their pho next time! ”
“ Fantastic food in the heart of midtown. Don't drive too fast or you'll miss it. Great authentic Vietnamese food in a friendly environment. It's always a great spot for good food. ”
“ In terms of Midtown dining, it's hard to discount Cali Sandwich & Pho, one of the city's most frequented spots for affordable (#1) food and a solid lunch option. A family run business, they're pushing two decades in operation, and is worth a shot for anyone who enjoys a decent banh mi. It might not look like much from the outside, but the seating here is spacious enough to where waiting for a seat is rare. Minus their busy lunch hours and weekend diners, there are plenty of options for groups of all sizes. The natural lighting is a nice touch and the bustle of the family working to get food out is very admirable. For yours truly, it's banh mi, coffee, and close to nothing else. The bread is soft and they're quite good about lathering the insides with extra paté, is always a wonderful thing. Their dac biet version is a good portion of various meats from cha lua to head cheese. Their trung (egg) op is one of their better combos with lots of paté and I appreciate the runny egg. The coffee is an excellent size and I love the fact it's just sweet enough to savor but bitter enough to give me life. I tend to buy their ca phe sua das in tandem with banh mi, which makes for an ideal takeout order. The good news is that a majority of the foods are under $10. The bad news is that I haven't found much I've enjoyed outside of the sandiwches. The broth was just too bland for my tastes and I thought the goi cuon summer rolls were also a bit disappointing. I think the com rice dishes are solid and I still haven't had their bun rieu. Food snafus aside, I think the service can be a bit rough around the edges at times. The young guys running the place don't always give off the friendliest vibe and ordering in Vietnamese is usually met with English. Shout out to the Viet aunties working hard in the back to make this all work. The parking is a dedicated parking lot, but fills up quick since it's shared with other businesses in the same lot. When the service gets a bit backed up, sometimes the wait for food while dining in can be a bit much. Takeout or bust, and in addition to the banh mi, I love their mini station of sauces and condiments that they also sell like an Asian supermarket. They do accept credit card, but cash is always the way to go. ___________ (#1) In the loop anyway. ”
“ A Houston staple when it comes affordable, yet tasty, eats. The banh mi sandwiches are filled and inexpensive. The midtown location has moved ever so slightly into a newer building. There are a good amount of tables and seats. The decor is basic, but gets the job done. The menu is extensive, but I always stick to the basics. My go-to is the special banh mi, commonly known as dac biet. If you're looking to try banh mi for the first time, thit nuong would be your best bet. It's juicy, marinated pork and is always a crowd favorite. ”
“ Guided here by "Eat like a Local" episode. Do NOT skip on the egg rolls. Super crispy! Actually came here for the wonton soup and was not disappointed. Made exactly the way I like and was also a good portion for the price. Also got a bahn mi and spicy garlic beef, all good. Can't go wrong here it seems as I was looking at the food at other tables with envy. Until next time! ”
“ My favorite pho place in Houston! I've tried many places and this one tops for pricing and flavor of soup broth and variety. The bun bo hue (spicy beef) had ample lemongrass flavor albeit less spicy than I'm used to. The pho broth was fragrant and a classic staple. Banh Mi's were 5.50$ and great bang for buck. Will definitely be back! Service was fast and ambiance casual. ”
“ If I lived in Houston I'd definitely come here at least once a week. I'm from northern VA where banh mi will cost you at least $9 nowadays, it is a BARGAIN to get a delicious banh mi for $5-6 here!! Even with extra meat, it's about $7! Service is so kind here as well, we also tried the bo luc lac and beef pho and both were delicious! I'd highly recommend coming here and supporting this business :) ps order the egg rolls SO CRISPY AND YUMMY ”
“ It has been a couple years since I've dined in and decided to go with friends & our kids. The parking lot is very small and limited. There is street parking nearby but I parked in a lot next door without issues. It was around 1:30 pm on Saturday and it was busy but they were able to quickly cleaned a table for 5. We did have some trouble communicating with our server but after several attempts, we were able to get our order in. We asked for fried rice without eggs due to an allergy but they said they couldn't accommodate. The food came out fairly quickly and everything was delicious. Eggrolls are always my fav appetizer to start with. My go to is the banh mi dac biet (combination sandwich). I always appreciate a restaurant that gives good amount of pate & butter in a banh mi. There isn't a kids menu/portion. I got my daughter a pho with rare beef & brisket size small. My friends got the spicy garlic shrimp which comes with steamed rice, bbq pork sandwich, and combination fried rice. I've had the spicy garlic beef & rice & crispy tofu dish before and both are great. The women's restroom was fairly cleaned & had two stalls (one large family size). The staff were overall friendly. I would definitely come back again or order to go. ”
